We brought these in "full size" in a firmer lay  so the would well on windlasses. But it's always advised to cycle nylon ropes, wet then dry a few times which also firms up the rope. 8-Strand is a single braid which makes it a bit stronger than 3-strand and it won't rotate under load or hockle.
